ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Four people, including two young girls who suffered head injuries, were involved in a two-vehicle crash Sunday morning in Algoma Township.
The crash happened at 11:10 a.m., according to the Kent County Sheriff's Department, when 53-year-old Constance Wegner of Roseville failed to yield to an oncoming Buick Rendezvous after stopping at the intersection of Wolven Avenue and 11 Mile Road.
The driver of the Buick, 35-year-old Jennifer Zemaitis of Rockford, was not seriously hurt, sustaining only an abrasion to a knee.
Wegner complained of minor injuries and sought her own medical treatment.
The passengers in Wegner's Ford Escape, a 4-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl, both sustained serious head injuries and were taken to a hospital.
Alayna Wegner, 7, is in serious condition and Alyse Wegner, 4, is in Critical condition, as of Monday morning.
The sheriff's department said both girls were not in booster or car seats but wore seat belts.
