DUTTON, Mich. (WOOD) - Windows were smashed and door latches hammered by at least one person who broke into the food pantry at a Dutton church.
Pastor Jack Brown of Redeemer Covenant Church told 24 Hour News 8 the break-in happened over the weekend and he thinks the robbers were looking for money.
"The main message I would have for anyone who feels the need to break in is there's other ways to get your needs met and allow the church to reach out to you anyway you can," said Brown.
Only a few food items were stolen, but a bass guitar and video projector used in their services are missing.
Another nearby church was also burglarized, he said.
That was the Dutton United Reformed Church, which is right across the street from Redeemer Covenant.
The Kent County Sheriff's Department said that the thieves might have tried to torch the safe at the United Reformed Church, but didn't they immediately know if anything was taken.
The Kent County Sheriffs Department is investigating the break-ins, but didn't immediately have any suspects in mind.
