Flights canceled due to Hurricane Sandy

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Thousands of flights are being canceled preparation for Hurricane Sandy hitting the East Coast, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.

Several of those canceled flights are at the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Cascade Township.

There appears to be no affected flights at the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport in Kalamazoo.

Airport officials told 24 Hour News 8 that passengers should check the status of their flight with their airlines before going to the airports.

"It looks like this is one of those weather patterns where it's going to take more than 24 hours to get airlines back on schedule in all the major markets so beyond today we could be looking at a couple of days," Bruce Schedlbauer, Gerald R. Ford International Airport marketing and communications manager said.

Additionally, Lake Express Ferry has cancelled trips for Monday and Tuesday, according to a booking agent.
