GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A record snowfall was the opening salvo for Winter 2009, as parts of Ottawa and western Kent counties received up to 10" of snow from a narrow band of lake-effect weather.
A Winter Storm Warning was in effect, but expired at 4 p.m. Friday for part of West Michigan. Another 3-6" of snow will fall through midday in that area, with 1-3" in the rest of the advisory counties.
Grand Rapids Public Schools, along with dozens of other school districts across West Michigan, are closed from the snow.
There may be some snow between Holland and Big Rapids on Saturday, but Sunday looks dry.
More snow is expected Monday, and a true snowstorm is possible by the middle part of next week.
Road conditions are not good in many spots, but the road commissions are out. Drivers are reminded to give themselves more time to get where they need to go.
