SPARTA, Mich. (WOOD) - Firefighters continue to investigate what sparked a blaze inside a Sparta mobile home early Monday morning.
Four people were inside the home in the 1300 block of Glen Park Drive when the fire started around 12:30 a.m. in a front bedroom.
"And we went in there and we saw the fire in the closet and then we went to go get fire extinguishers, and when we went back in to put it out, the smoke was all black so we couldn't get in. So we all got out of the house and just watched it burn," homeowner Lydia DeVree told 24 Hour News 8.
The residents were able to escape safely.
DeVree said an effective smoke detector had not sounded yet.
Two additional fire departments, Alpine Township and Algoma, were dispatched to the scene for tanker support.
