GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A former youth minister accused of having sexual contact with a teen girl has been sentenced to jail time.
Matthew Abid was sentenced to six months in the Kent County jail with credit for 34 days served. He was also sentenced to 60 months probation and will have to register as a sex offender.
Abid, 30, entered a guilty plea to an amended count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in January.
He was originally charged with third-degree CSC, which is defined as "penetration." Second-degree CSC is defined as "sexual contact." Both charges specify the victim as a person "at least 13 years of age but less than 16 years of age."
Court documents show a 15-year-old girl told authorities she went into a basement with Abid and the two began kissing and he touched her inappropriately. The girl was taking driver's training at the church in December 2011 and also attended Abid's Catholic youth group.
Investigators say Abid admitted to touching the teenage girl and that there were several other incidents of sexual contact between Abid and the victim after she turned 16.
