WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) - A police investigation is underway to determine if some parents supplied alcohol to Wyoming Park High School students hours before a crash killed two teenagers, a source told 24 Hour News 8.

Tim See, 17, and 15-year-old Krysta Howell died in the early hours of May 20 when the car they were in rolled over off an exit ramp from I-196 to Chicago Drive. Three other teens were in the car driven by Takunda Mavima.

Police say Mavima, 17, admitted to drinking and driving. The teens were returning to their Wyoming homes after attending a party at Copper Beech townhomes in Allendale.

Before that, a source close to the investigation told 24 Hour News 8 the teens were at another party -- where parents were OK with teens drinking alcohol, and possibly might have provided it.

"You're responsible for what happens in your home," said Shannon Cohen, chair of the Kent County Prevention Coalition. "It's not just your own family, but you're inviting others to participate in that as well. So it becomes a community impact, a ripple impact."

Cohen said the coalition is a part of the national campaign, "Parents Who Host Lose the Most".

The campaign warns of the health impacts for minors and legal issues that could come up for parents who host parties with alcohol.

The campaign says Michigan party hosts face a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail and up to a $1,000 fine, and anyone buying alcohol for minors can face a misdemeanor of up to 60 days in jail, community service and a fine of up to $1,000.

Wyoming Police Department Capt. Kim Koster told 24 Hour News 8 that depending on what happens after the party the parents could face a felony.

The Kalamazoo Substance Abuse Task Force says hosts also open themselves up to a possible lawsuit.
