TYRONE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A man died in a rollover crash after he was ejected and the vehicle landed on top of him.
Kelby Freeland, 22, from Bailey, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was not wearing a seat belt.
His two passengers -- 25-year-old Brandon Adams from Grant and 24-year-old Jacob Peterson from Kent City -- suffered minor injuries and taken to a hospital. They were wearing seat belts, police said.
All three men were occupants in a 2001 Volvo 560 that Freeland was driving east when he lost control around 3:47 a.m. Friday in the 3400 block of 20 Mile Road.
The vehicle went off the road, rolled over several times, struck a tree and ended in a residence's front yard, police said.
The passengers crawled out of the vehicle and went to a nearby house to call for help.
The road was closed for several hours between Fruit Ridge Avenue and Peach Ridge Avenue, north of Kent City, as authorities investigated.
Police told 24 Hour News 8 at the scene that they think speed and alcohol were factors in the wreck.
