GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A Grand Rapids area district plans to double state-required lockdown drills at its schools following a shooting rampage that left 20 elementary students dead in Connecticut.
MLive.com reports Sunday that Rockford Public Schools is looking to hold four drills each year. Michigan law requires at least two.
Rockford superintendent Michael Shibler says "the code red training and drills is far more important in saving lives if tragedy should occur than any other measures."
A committee also will review district security and make recommendations.
Administrators and faculty at Grand Rapids Diocesan Catholic Schools also are to review "active shooter in schools" planning information from the local sheriff's department and other crisis materials.
Authorities in Connecticut say Adam Lanza also killed six adults Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown.
