PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A candidate for Plainfield Township Clerk helped track down the people who were allegedly stealing her campaign signs.
Ruth Karnes called police at 6:58 p.m. Monday to report the latest theft that she witnessed near Post Drive and Jupiter Avenue NE in Plainfield Township. The crimes started three weeks ago, Karnes told authorities.
So Karnes followed the suspect's vehicle until a Kent County sheriff's deputy took over the pursuit that ended at the Plainfield Township Hall.
The suspects were later identified as 51-year-old Janet Lastocy and 48-year-old Traci Kornak.
One of the suspects told police she took the signs "because of several different laws regulating these signs and their placement," according to a news release.
One of the suspects was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
The prosecutor's office is reviewing the case.
