COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WOOD) - A teen accused of threatening to sexually assault one classmate and kill several others will undergo psychological, competency and criminal responsibility exams.
Ben Malachino, 17, was charged Monday with threats of terrorism and his bond was set at $500,000. Authorities say he sent threatening texts to a female student, saying he would sexually assault her, lock down Comstock Park High School and kill several students -- three of whom he specified by name.
A judge declined to lower Malachino's bond at a Wednesday bond hearing, despite a request from Malachino's attorney.
The judge ordered that Malachino will be taken to a mental health facility in Ypsilanti for a psychological examination. He will also be evaluated for criminal responsibility and competency.
Malachino, appearing in court via closed-circuit television, smiled when judge told him that his family was in the courtroom, sitting in the front row to support him.
