CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (WOOD) - The search for a 13-year-old girl from Cedar Springs who disappeared Monday afternoon ended when she was found safe early Tuesday morning.
Alyssa Jordyn (AJ) Bergman's mother called police Monday when the girl didn't ride the bus home from Cedar Springs Middle School, where she had last been seen prior to Tuesday's sighting.
Cedar Springs police said "special circumstances" gave them concern for the teen's safety.
Alyssa mentioned to a friend that she was going to walk the White Pine Trail after school, police said. So that is where authorities, along with the teen's family and friends, began their search.
A family member showed a photo of Alyssa to a clerk working at a Marathon gas station on Bridge Street in Rockford. The clerk told police the girl was in the business around 4 p.m. asking for directions to the bus terminal.
Grand Rapids police located Alyssa at a gas station in the northeast part of the city.
