KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) -- Jury deliberations are underway in the murder, child abuse and torture trial of Anthony and Marsha Springer, accused in the death of their daughter, Calista, in a house fire two years ago.
They deliberated for about an hour before asking Judge Paul Stutesman for video copies of seven witnesses, including Anthony Springer, and several exhibits.
The exhibits include the dog chain which 16-year old Calista Springer was tethered to her bed when the family home burned two years ago. She died in the fire.
The jury also wants to see the bed alarm that the Springers used to keep Calista in her bed, along with home videos of the family entered into evidence by the defense to show the Springers treated Calista well. They're also interested in Calista's alleged letters in which she talked about her home life as a "prison" and talked about killing herself.
The trial was moved from St. Joseph County to Kalamazoo when an impartial jury could not be seated.
Last Friday, the prosecution and defense made their closing arguments , and the judge gave the jury their instructions. They were given three days off before beginning to deliberate.
