GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - With the first real snow expected to stick on Friday, the Kent County Road Commission is ready for the season.
Jerry Byrne of the Kent County Road Commission told 24 Hour News 8 the lack of snow in November helped the commission in a few ways.
"Typically there's 10-12 inches of snow in November. That didn't happen, and we saved a lot of money," he said.
The commission budgets $3.5 million for maintenance, and they were able to buy road salt at last year's prices, about 20% less than they are now. That saved about $150,000.
Byrne also said safe roads depend on motorists. If the weather is bad, "give yourself extra time" to get where you need to go.
