WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) - Even on a cold, rainy night, the flowers outside Cindy Powell's home seem bright. They bloom inside a heart-shaped garden made in memory of her daughter Jamie Powell.

Jamie, who was 30 at the time, was shot and killed in her apartment in the Old Orchard Apartment complex in Walker on March 5.

"You're sad. You're mad. You just want to know what went on -- how it could've been her," said Cindy Powell.

Walker Police detective Brandyn Heugel told 24 Hour News 8 that investigators have zeroed in on a handful of people believed to be involved in Jamie's murder, including a person of interest.

Heugel keeps a picture of Jamie pinned up at her desk as a constant reminder that a killer is still out there.

"She was the most loving person you could ever want to know. Help anybody, give you the shirt off her back," said Ashley, one of Jamie's four sisters.

"Somebody does know something, and I just wish somebody would find it in their heart to come forward and say something so we can get this solved and my sister could rest in peace," said Jamie's sister, Jennifer.

Witnesses told police they saw someone climb out of Powell's window the night of the murder. Police arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the murder, but later released him.

Detectives said this is one of the most complex cases they have ever seen, but they are confident that they will nab the killer soon.

Powell would have turned 31 in September.

Anyone with information about the murder is urged to contact the Walker Police Department or Silent Observer at 616-774-2345.
