Pit bull shot, killed after attack

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) - Police shot and killed a pit bull Saturday night after it attacked an 11-year-old girl and turned on one of the responding officers.

The incident happened in the 200 block of Janet SE around 9:30 p.m. When police arrived, they saw two unleashed pit bulls and the girl, who was injured.

One of the pit bulls charged the officer, who shot and killed the dog.

The girl was taken to the hospital and has been released.

The dogs owner was not home at the time, the investigators believe the dogs got out of their home through an open window.

Police continue to look into the matter.
