WALKER, Mich (WOOD) - - A story of business success at the West Michigan Pet Expo at the DeltaPlex in Walker this weekend.
With drive and determination, Marty McNee jumped headfirst back
into the workforce after being laid off.
"I spent 31 years at Pfizer and with their downsizing.... I
lost my job."
Enter her new business:
Pet
Barrier. It's a gadget you put on your door to keep your furry
friends safely contained indoors.
"I have a crazy dog at home so it was always a challenge for
me to go to my door. I thought 'there's got to be something I can
do in a business situation."
It's taken several years to get her company off the ground.
She's just getting going, has two employees already and is ready to
sell her product.
"I have always looked at the glass half full. Always. I
believe it's your attitude that will drive you through life."
She adds the poor economy shouldn't be a deterant.
Actually, the opposite.
"People say "Oh my gosh, you're starting a business in these
kind of times?" I think it's the best time to start a business
because people are looking for something new. Something.. what's
out there. The cost is a little lower than if you were out there in
prime time."
