GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A Jenison man entered a plea Monday in a case in which he is accused of drugging, kidnapping and abusing his ex-girlfriend.
Travis Ghent pleaded guilty to unlawful imprisonment and no contest to extortion.
The 25-year-old went to Raquel Mayhanagian's house in Byron Center in October 2009, a week after she filed a personal protection order against him. She says he forced her to use marijuana, and then put her in a car and drove her to Cadillac, hitting her multiple times along the route. She then said he forced her to take Darvocet and drove her to New York.
Mayhanagian, 25, was able to escape in New York and went to an airport, calling her father who booked her a flight home.
Mayhanagian is not the first woman who has had to ask for protection against Ghent. He was engaged in 2008 with another woman who said Ghent abused her. She, too, filed a PPO against Ghent, who later violated the order by calling her. He pleaded no contest in this case.
