One dead in crash; SUV splits in half

Alcohol believed to be a factor

ADA, Mich (WOOD) - One man is dead and another is in the hospital after a SUV went off the road and hit a tree Saturday morning.

At 3:15am, Kent County Sheriff deputies responded to Honey Creek Rd, south of 2 Mile after a neighbor heard a loud crash. Deputies found a SUV had left the roadway and hit a tree. The crash was so strong that it split the SUV in half.

The 26 year-old driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. His identity is not known at this time. The passenger, 23-year-old Jeremy Joseph Sobczak-Obetts from Grand Rapids, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
