Kentwood PD Chief Mattice retiring

Deputy Chief Tom Hillen to take over in November

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) - Kentwood will soon have a new police chief.

Kentwood Police Chief Richard Mattice will retire on Nov. 9. Current Deputy Chief Tom Hillen will be named chief of police on that same day.

The decision was made at Tuesday night's city commission meeting.

Mattice has been the chief in Kentwood for more than 20 years. He previously served as a support services captain with the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Hillen has previously served with the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
