GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - A federal judge has issued a ruling on a number of matters in the lawsuit against Bethany Christian Services.
Chip and Julie Harshaw of Hampton Roads, Va., are suing the local adoption agency for $44 million, saying Bethany failed to disclose the severity of their adoptive child's mental disabilities.
In May, Judge Paul Maloney issued an order the Harshaws' attorneys said is favorable to their case.
Two of Maloney's key points: Bethany "did not investigate Roman's medical background at all" and that the agency "engaged in a pattern of dishonesty and deception," in regards to the child's medical records.
A trial date could be issued in the next few weeks.
Bethany Christian Services has declined to comment on the lawsuit.
