GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Personal hand sanitizers are allowed in classrooms, a helpful way to keep kids hands clean as the flu spreads.

The one-ounce personal sanitizers also allows for greater dispenser amounts in each classroom.

Though the hand sanitizer is technically a Class 1 flammable liquid, a new fire code policy allows for alcohol-based hand rubs to be allowed in schools. This policy was recently changed after educators encouraged the rule change.

24 Hour News 8 was contacted by a parent with questions about the policy.
