GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Three county health departments have opened up swine flu vaccinations to the public. Now, regardless of whether you fall into the priority group, you can receive the shot.
On Monday evening, Kalamazoo and Allegan county health department officials announced the vaccine will be made available to anyone.
That follows an announcement Monday morning by the Kent County Health Department, which will begin vaccinating anyone who wants one Saturday. There still are 6,000 spots open for the upcoming clinic.
The decision is based on the fact that those at high risk have had ample time to get their vaccinations, health department officials say, and there has been continued request for vaccination from those not in the priority group.
"We just feel that the general public that has been not in a risk group has been waiting patiently to get a vaccination," said Bill Anstey of the KCHD. "And now is their time to come, you know, right before the holidays and make sure that they're protected."
Kalamazoo County has a clinic Wednesday and Allegan County's clinic is Tuesday. All require you to make an appointment.
