PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Firefighters quick response kept a grass fire started by fireworks from reaching an apartment complex.
Some small grass fires broke out behind Rolling Pines Apartments in Kent County's Plainfield Township Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m.
Lt. Pat DuVall of the Plainfield Township Fire Department says an acre and a half burned between Queenswood Dr. and Brockwood Dr.
There were two points of origin with the grass fire and Lt. DuVall says the fire was started by fireworks. Investigators found used Roman Candles and fireworks fountain container in the area.
Residents say they heard fireworks before seeing and smelling smoke. Lt. DuVall says the fire was within 20 feet of one of the structures.
"If we had responded five minutes later, the fire would have gotten to one of the apartment buildings," Lt. Duvall said.
No one was hurt in the fire. Firefighters cleared the scene around 5:15 p.m.
