KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) -- They're state champions and now they're heading to Washington.
East Kentwood High School's "We the People" team will represent Michigan at the program's national competition. "We the People" competitors testify at a mock congressional hearing, proving their knowledge and understanding of the U.S. Constitution.
It's the 15th time the students have won the state title. The team was honored at Monday night's Kentwood Public Schools board meeting.
School administrators praise the program for promoting civil competence and responsibility among students.
