GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A diamond ring found a the Gaines Township Meijer over the weekend has been returned to its owner.
The Kent County Sheriff's Department was called to the Meijer to take possession of the ring on Monday morning, which was found sometime over the weekend, according to Kent County Undersheriff Jon Hess.
The department had the ring -- gold wedding band with several diamonds set in it -- appraised. It's worth several thousand dollars.
The ring's owner, Dawn White of Wayland, received it back from Kent County authorities on Monday around 6 p.m. after hearing about the recovered ring on 24 Hour News 8 at 5 p.m.
"I heard on the news tonight: 'If you've lost a diamond ring at Meijer's call the Kent County police department,'" said White. "I started shaking, and before I could even get Kent County up on my computer, my neighbor lady was knocking on my door saying, 'Dawn, Dawn, call! They found your ring, they found your ring!'"
White told 24 Hour News 8 she recently lost some weight and her ring didn't fit very well.
She said after she realized she had lost it, she searched the store, but with no luck. She thought it was gone for good.
But someone found the ring and brought it to a store employee.
White said she's extremely relieved. The ring was a gift from her husband on their 20th anniversary.
Authorities do not have the name of the person who turned the ring in.
