Jeremy Sobczak-Obetts' two older brothers said they were looking for closure at the scene of the crash that killed their brother.
Sobczak-Obetts died Saturday morning at around 3:15 a.m. when the driver of the SUV he was a passenger in crashed into a wooded area near Honey Creek and 2 Mile Roads. Investigators said the force of the crash split the SUV in two. They say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
Michigan State Police and Kent County Sheriff's Department records show that Andrew Tittle is being held on a felony homicide warrant at the county jail.
Tittle, who was charged with OUIL causing death, entered a guilty plea Jan. 21 at a status conference in Kent County Circuit Court. He is scheduled for sentencing in March.
Saturday afternoon Mike and Richard Childs, the victim's older brothers, visited the crash site.
"We're just out here trying to put the pieces together and maybe for a little bit of closure," Richard said.
"I just feel close, feel close to him out here," Mike said. "I feel like this is the last place he was alive and I just feel like I want to be here."
Family members said Sobczak-Obetts attended Northview High School and was currently living in East Lansing and studying at Michigan State University. They say Sobczak-Obetts loved sports and was very talented.
"Today he was supposed to come over and I was going to work on his brakes for him," Richard said. " We were going to watch the Michigan State game and now he's gone."
The brothers said that Sobczak-Obetts and Tittle were close friends that grew up together. They believe the two were headed home after attending a concert at the Van Andel Arena.
"Unfortunately they didn't get to their destination," Richard said.
The Childs brothers said they hope that others will learn from the tragedy they are experiencing.
"Don't get in the car with somebody who's been drinking," Richard said.
" If you love the person or you care about 'em just take the keys," Mike said. "Save a life."
Tittle will likely be arraigned early next week. He received minor injuries in the crash, was treated at the hospital, then arrested.
