The 22-year-old Algoma Township man who was arraigned Tuesday for allegedly abducting his girlfriend faces life in prison for his charges that stemmed from the Sept. 4 incident.
Andrew Cheslek faces charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping and felony weapons possession.
New details were released Thursday in the kidnapping that was caught on tape at a Mobil gas station, 3620 14 Mile Road NE.
Cheslek's girlfriend ran into the gas station for help after she said she was tied up and held against her will.
The woman in the video told investigators Cheslek begged her to come over from her northwest Grand Rapids home. But when she arrived, she said, she was beaten and sexually assaulted.
The torture started at around 1:30 a.m. Friday, she said.
The victim said she was berated and beaten. Cheslek was armed with a pistol, he tied the woman's feet and hands with zipties, and sealed her mouth shut, she told investigators. She was tortured, her nose was pinched close, and Cheslek injected with her something -- possibly methadone, according to the victim.
Next, she said, Cheslek forced her into a car and took her to the Mobil gas station. When he was attempting to buy cigarettes, she broke free and begged the clerk for help.
The surveillance video shows the woman being dragged away while the clerk called 911. They were seen leaving in an SUV.
Then, the victim said, Cheslek again stopped for cigarettes. This time, he went to a nearby BP station, which deputies confirm. He then took her back to his house, while threatening he would kill her and dump her body in the woods.
She told police Cheslek decided to let her go when he got home and saw his father was awake.
Cheslek's version of the story is much different. He said he tied her up to prevent the woman from hurting herself. Cheslek also said the touching was consentual, and he denies ever using a firearm.
He is being held at the Kent County jail on $300,000 bond.
Police found a piece of duct tape with black hair on it, which may be connected to the incident.
Authorities used a search warrant to further investigate Cheslek's home.
