GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Lawyers for Bethany Christian Services were seeking a gag order against the Virginia couple who sits at the center of a lawsuit Target 8 reported on last week -- but Wednesday, a judge rejected that motion.
The order was against Chip and Julie Harshaw, along with their attorneys. Bethany Christian Services had asked the judge in the case to issue the gag order as to not taint a potential jury pool, according to a motion filed by Bethany's attorneys.
The Hawshaws allege the adoption agency deceived them after it was determined their adopted son has severe mental and cognitive disabilities.
In the motion, WOOD TV is mentioned, along with CNN and The New York Times.
The next hearing scheduled is May 10 in U.S. District Court, in Kalamazoo.
