Armed robber caught hour after incident

An armed robber hit the Speedway Gas Station, 4404 Eastern Ave. SE, in Kentwood on Tuesday.

At 2:30 p.m., one hour later, he was caught.

The suspect entered the Speedway, said he had a firearm, obtained cash and fled the scene. As he was leaving, he dropped papers which helped police identify him.

Witnesses also provided a description of his vehicle.

Grand Rapids police, who were helping with the investigation, spotted the suspect in his vehicle in the area of 43rd Street and Breton Avenue SE. They took his homemade weapon, and he is in custody.
