CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A 4-year-old, seriously injured in a two-car crash on 68th Street near Alaska Avenue on Friday, died Saturday afternoon. He was declared brain dead and was removed from life support.

Jack Tyler Boerema was seriously injured after his mother and a teenage driver collided on 68th Street.

Anna Rosa  Grantz, 16, lost control of her 1997 Chrysler LHS on 68th Street and hit 44-year-old Terri Lynne Boerema's Chevy Malibu, investigators said.

A passerby helped remove Jack from the vehicle and a Kent County sheriff's deputy performed CPR on the child.  He was able to regain a pulse but the child did not regain consciousness at the scene, the Kent County Sheriff's Department said.

The two drivers were trapped in their vehicles and needed to be removed by emergency personnel. Terri Boerema and Anna Grantz are listed in serious condition at a Grand Rapids hospital.

Dan Netz, head administrator for Dutton Christian School, said Jack Boerema was part of the "four-year-old pre-kindergarten program" at the school and remembers Jack as a "happy guy" who had a "gentle spirit, kind-hearted to his classmates, he sang from his heart and he loved the Lord".

Netz forwarded to 24 Hour News 8 an email parents were given Saturday that said, "At the hospital, Jack was determined brain dead, and this morning (February 11), life support will be removed. We are told that Jack will not survive and will run into the arms of Jesus today."
