ROSS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - Two neighbors rescued a woman from her burning pole barn late Tuesday night in Ross Township in Kalamazoo County.
The victim, in her early 40s, was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. She is expected to recover.
The structure contained many antiques. At least one vehicle was destroyed in the blaze, fire chief Doug Bogema told 24 Hour News 8 at the scene.
The fire sparked about 11 p.m. across the street from a home in the 6100 block of W. Sherman Lake Drive. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Firefighters from three different departments were called to the scene and used water from nearby Sherman Lake to douse the flames.
Only one vehicle can travel along the narrow road at a time, which caused some difficulty for the firefighters. They also used fire hydrants on M-89.
Two garages on either side of the burned structure were not damaged.
