NEWTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An on-fire minivan exploded Friday night as a Calhoun County deputy approached the vehicle in Newton Township.

Around 10 p.m., the minivan was spotted on fire in the 7000 block of B Drive South, but as deputies approached there was no indication of any accident. While a deputy checked if anyone was in the minivan, the vehicle exploded in a scene caught on a dashcam.

The deputy was uninjured. The married couple inside the minivan managed to get out, though the husband suffered burns to one arm. The couple, 34 and 35 years old, are from Marshall.

The investigation into the cause of the fire and explosion continues, including the possibility meth components were inside the vehicle.
