KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Two Michigan employers are among 15 that are being given the nation's highest honor for employer support of Guard and Reserve employees.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Uniform Color Company of Holland, Mich., received the 2012 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award on Thursday.
It's presented by a Department of Defense agency called the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
The ceremony took place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C. The honorees also met privately with Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey earlier in the day.
Only 160 employers have been given the Freedom Award since its institution in 1996.
