KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Testimony has started in the trial of one of two men charged in the robbery and slaying of 74-year-old Kalamazoo antiques dealer Bob Medema.

MLive.com reports that defense attorney Susan Eifler said in her opening statements Wednesday that 21-year-old Antonio Livingston was unaware Medema was being targeted for a robbery when he accepted a ride from John Aguilar.

Medema was found beaten to death in August in his home. He operated a longtime downtown antique store.

Livingston and Aguilar face open murder and other charges. Aguilar's trial is to start April 9.

Assistant prosecutor Alexis Sanford told the Kalamazoo County Circuit Court jury Wednesday that Livingston was present when Medema was killed and aided and abetted Aguilar with the crime.
