FREDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - An Indiana man is in a Michigan jail after being arrested during a traffic stop involving drugs and a firearm.
A Calhoun County sheriff's deputy stopped the suspect's vehicle around 3:30 p.m. Thursday after the suspect committed a traffic violation on southbound Interstate 69 near mile marker 33 in Fredonia Township.
As the deputy approached the suspect's vehicle, he smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The suspect's mannerisms led the deputy to investigate further, according to a news release.
Upon patting down the suspect, the deputy recovered a loaded handgun from the suspect's waistband and placed him under arrest.
The deputy then searched the vehicle with a K-9 unit and found a large amount of marijuana, police said.
The 33-year-old suspect from Elkhart was taken into custody on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
