Driver tries to stop assault, gets shot

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - A driver who stopped to intervene in a domestic assault was shot in Battle Creek late Saturday morning, and the shooter remains on the loose.

Around 11:45 a.m, witnesses told police, the driver stopped in the area of Sharon and Pitman avenues. An argument ensued, and then the suspect shot the driver once before running away.

The driver was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Police have not released the names of the victim in the shooting, the victim in the domestic assault or the suspect involved.
