GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Snowy roads on Friday evening caused a mess for those traveling.
The road commission tried to get an early start on the roads by pre-treating them with salt and rocks, but still needed drivers to take it easy.
No serious injuries were reported, but the evening commute and slick roads caused several accidents including one on 131 near the Rockford exit involving two cars and a semi-truck.
Jerry Byrne from the Kent County Road Commission advised people to slow down while driving on icy, snow-covered roads, especially during the rush hour.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday for Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Ottawa, St. Joseph and Van Buren counties.
Accumulating snow will develop Friday afternoon and continue until about midnight.
Most areas will receive between 2-6 inches. Areas from Interstate 96 to the north will be on the lower side of the scale near 2-3 inches with locations near Interstate 94 closer to 4-6 inches.
Roads will become slippery. Temperatures will remain in the teens for highs but fortunately there will not be much wind.
