SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A Calhoun County township treasurer is accused in an embezzlement case.
Sheriff's investigators executed an arrest warrant at 3:40 p.m. Thursday in the 28000 block of C Drive North in Sheridan Township.
Linda Lewis, 57, from Albion was taken into custody.
Mlive.com reports investigators believe she stole tax funds paid to the township by residents -- totaling more than $80,000.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that in some instances Lewis accepted cash and recorded it in the township books but did not deposit it in the bank. The thefts allegedly started in April 2009.
Lewis could spend up to 15 years in prison if she is convicted.
