PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - Three men allegedly broke into a Portage apartment and assaulted one of the tenants before stealing some money and drugs.
A neighbor of the victims called police after hearing a disturbance that included "the sound of shotguns being racked," according to a news release.
Portage Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched at 10:30 p.m. Thursday to the 500 block of Thomas Court.
Three males in their early 20s wearing hooded sweatshirts forcibly entered an apartment, police said. Two of the suspects brandished shotguns, while a third had a handgun.
The suspects demanded money and drugs from the three tenants, police said.
Two of the tenants jumped off the second-story balcony. A third tenant remained in the apartment and was stuck in the head with a shotgun by one of the suspects, police said.
The suspects then fled with the cash and drugs.
A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety K-9 unit searched the area but did not find the suspects.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Portage Department of Public Safety at 269.329.4567 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
