EMMETT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety is asking residents to be vigilant after a rash of home invasions have occurred the past few months.
Authorities said that most -- but not all -- of the burglaries took place during the day and that residents were usually not home when the robbers broke in.
The robbers sometimes use a ruse to find an appropriate house. The robber will knock a door and engage whoever opens it in a brief conversation about a lost pet or hunting on their property.
If no one answers the door, the robber will break in.
Police are asking residents to watch out for this type of ruse and gather as much information about suspects as possible, like a vehicle or suspect description.
Emmett Township DPS also remind residents to close and lock doors when not at home or when sleeping.
Anyone with information or who sees something suspicious is asked to contact the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety at 269.968.9303 or Silent Observer.
