BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - Consumers Energy crews on Wednesday evening restored electric service to the Heritage Tower Building in downtown Battle Creek.
Electric service to the building was disconnected Sunday due to a private matter between the utility and the building's owner, according to a news release from the utility company.
Several major cellular telephone carriers and the local 911 system have towers on the top of the 19-story building and those towers were affected by the electric service disconnection.
Consumers Energy worked with local officials, the building's owners, and the cellular telephone tower owners on an arrangement to restore electric service.
The utility also is working with the building's owners, the owners of the cellular telephone towers and others on an arrangement to provide permanent electric service to the telephone towers.
"Consumers Energy understands how important it is to the city of Battle Creek to have a fully functioning 911 system and cellular telephone service. Finding a solution to this issue was a priority for us, and we worked closely with the local officials and many others to find this temporary solution," Patti Poppe, the utility's vice president of customer experience and operations said in a news release.
"I'm confident we will be able to develop a permanent solution to maintain 911 and cellular telephone service in Battle Creek over the long run."
