Resigned after 'inappropriate relationship'

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - Portage Public Schools has involved police in efforts to get back $2,000 in property from a former administrator involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with the district's former superintendent.

Patricia Koeze was the human resources director at the district while she was allegedly having an affair with former superintendent Ric Perry, who in January resigned under protest after allegations of an "inappropriate relationship" surfaced.

On Feb. 8, a report was filed with the Portage Police Department, aiming to retrieve a $1,400 laptop, a $500 iPad and a $150 wireless hot spot, district spokeswoman Sarah Baker confirmed to 24 Hour News 8. The district would also like Koeze to return her set of district keys.

The police report was filed after failed attempts to get the property back. The district's attorney had already sent Koeze's attorney a letter warning of police action if the items were not returned by Feb. 4.

Koeze, who had not been at work since Jan. 9, resigned only after district authorities found she had been hired as the superintendent of a Muskegon charter school academy on Jan. 14. She later resigned from that position, as well.
