KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) - A woman with dementia who disappeared Monday was found safe Tuesday after a passerby noticed her crashed vehicle in a ditch.
Aina Viksne, 82, was still in the vehicle and uninjured in the wreck in the 13000 block of East W Avenue east of Vicksburg around 7 a.m. Tuesday. The passerby took Viksne to the nearby Thrasher's Pit Stop whose clerk called police to further assist Viksne.
Authorities made arrangements to have her vehicle returned to her home, and her pastor helped her be reunited with her husband.
Viksne had left her home around 5 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of Olney Road in Kalamazoo Township en route to the Burger King restaurant on W. Main Street, police said. This was the last time anyone had seen her prior to Tuesday's crash.
