BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) - Authorities are looking for the man who they say ran over a kitten with a pickup truck.

The man dropped off the kittens in the parking lot of the Humane Society in Battle Creek around 10:37 p.m. July 25, according to Humane Society of Southwest Michigan Director Jessica Gilbert.

The kittens were not contained in a box. After being released from inside the truck, they ran under the man's Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck.

The man then backed over one of the kittens, according to Gilbert. That kitten was killed.

The other two 12-week-old kittens had hernias, Gilbert said, which were likely caused at the time of their birth by the mother cat. Both of the kittens had to undergo surgery, but are now well and will be placed in a foster home.

The truck is described as dark blue or black with an extended cab. It had a riding lawn mower in the bed.

The man involved is described as a white man with facial hair wearing tan cargo shorts, a blue tank top and a camouflage baseball cap.

He faces a $1,500 fine because each charge of animal abandonment carries a $500 fine.

Police were not able to get any fingerprints off items left with the kittens.
