KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - Neighbors helped rescue a Kalamazoo resident from a burning house Saturday evening.

One of the neighbors saw smoke coming out of the rear of residence in the 1600 block of Sheridan Street and called for help at 7:24 p.m.

As Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety personnel were en route, more neighbors entered the home and assisted the elderly resident out of the burning building.

Officers arrived and saw "heavy fire conditions in an attic storage area," according to a news release.

It took about an hour for officers to extinguish the fire.

A cause is still being investigated and nobody was injured.

If you have more information about this incident you are asked to call police at 269.337.8994 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
