KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A woman who ran a stop sign and hit a semi-truck driver was texting at the time of the fatal crash, an investigation by the Michigan State Police revealed.
Lisa Evans, 42, died the following day. Zachary Neal, 24, died at the scene.
Evans also had opiates in her system, said MSP Sgt. Jim Campbell. He said investigators found a partially completed text message on her phone that was being written about four minutes before the 911 call about the crash.
She drove through a stop sign in Brady Township , near Vicksburg, on July 30. Her pickup hit the semi, which caught fire, killing Neal. Evans died at a hospital the next day.
In April, she got a ticket for texting while driving her pickup into a pond in the area.
