Meth lab explodes in Kzoo apartment

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) - A meth-cooking explosion caused an apartment fire in Kalamazoo late Saturday night, though no one was inside when emergency personnel arrived.

A little after 10 p.m., the fire began in the 1700 block of Bloomfield, authorities said in a release. Firefighters were able to quickly put the fire out and noticed the meth lab while they were inside. Witnesses told police several people fled the apartment right after the explosion.

One person, a 31-year-old man, suffered some minor cuts when he tried to put the fire out. Investigators do not believe he's involved in the meth lab.

But another person, a 34-year-old Kalamazoo man, showed up at a hospital about 45 minutes later with serious burns on his body. It's unclear if he's involved in this incident, though investigators continue to look into it.
