Medical emergency causes head-on crash

66-year-old Three River's man caused crash

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - A head-on crash in Portage was caused after a driver of one of the vehicles suffered from an unknown medical emergency, police said.

According to Portage police the crash happened Monday night just after 10 o'clock on Portage road near Romence road.

In a news release police said that a 20-year-old from Portage was driving north on Portage road and was slowing down for the traffic signal at Romence road and was hit head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle was a 66-year-old Three Rivers resident. That driver was heading south on Portage road when they crossed the center line and struck the vehicle in the north bound lane.

The driver of the car that crossed the center line is believed to have suffered from an unknown medical emergency which caused him to cross the center line and strike the other vehicle.  

The other driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment.
