PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) - A semi-truck hauling 41,000 pounds of meat crashed on a Kalamazoo County highway ramp early Wednesday morning.

The driver was traveling south on U.S. 131, exited the interchange ramp for Interstate 94 in Portage and lost control, causing the rig to jackknife and overturn.

The 37-year-old man from Florida suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Portage Department of Public Safety personnel arrived at the scene and unloaded two-thirds of the meat boxes by hand out of the damaged trailer.

Another truck and a forklift arrived and cleared the pallets of meat.

The wreck at 1:10 a.m. caused a backup along the highway until 6 a.m.
